GCdiam
Just finished Chapter 12 with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. The battle scene was written with such force that I could hear the roar of the drums and the screams of the fallen. Such amazing characters. So hard to wait for Thursday but well worth it for the chapters which are so vivid and alive. JohnnyC

Lance Corporal
Still reading and still enjoying. Whilst I did serve in the Army during the Vietnam war period, I doubt that I could survive in the times of young Thomas Marking. A beautiful story which makes you feel as though you are there watching it happen. Well done Arthur... Jeikor
Enjoying this story way more than I would have thought. I especially liked this last chapter where Thomas gets to see his parents and new little brother. Can't wait to see if anything ever developes between Thomas and Carmelo. Jeikor
It was good that Thomas got to spend some time with his family especially at Christmas and his birthday but now back to war. Can't wait to see how the former captain now Lt. Selwynn handles himself in war. And what kind of revenge is he planning? I'm afraid he will find all these lads and the townspeople are going to on Thomas' side if he starts something.
Al Norris
I normally don't do spoilers, but Jeikor, you will get your wish in the next chapter... Coming to you this next Thursday! In related news, Drummer Boy is a story that has captured the interest of the Castle Roland community of readers. Since chapter 5, it became among the most read stories on our site. By chapter 13, it had zoomed ahead and is the single most read story we have published. It has broken all of our previous records and continues to set it own standard.I'm not one who normally would read a historical novel. Yet Arthur has captured my attention and my imagination with this story. Masterful story writing and attention to historical detail are only two of the reasons for the success of this story!I am thrilled that Arthur has chosen our site to host this wonderful story! Jeikor
I agree, Jay, I was looking forward to what the good Colonel had up his sleeve. I'm sure it would have embarassed the young English officers and had Thomas and friends coming out on top once again. Especially since they already have met with the guest of honor.Let's see . . . It's Friday so only 6 more days to find out. Man! Where did I leave my time machine?
Tinker Taylor Soldier I
Jeikor.... you think the guest of honor isn't yet going to be a surprise? Maybe I should reread the chapter. I had the impression the grand General the boys met earlier that afternoon will be at the ball... but not necessarily as the guest of honor... perhaps escorting the guest of honor. In any event, yes; it will be great to see the mouthy junior officers put in their place once again in the presence of the innocent, simple drummer boy.Like the rest of you, I'm greatly enjoying this story. I don't usually stick with reading one that drags out this long, but this story is exceptional. Unfortunately, Thursday nights are far too far apart.I'm also glad this story led me to Castle Roland. I started reading Drummer Boy on Nifty... but when I was Googling something from the story to check the historical background (which is amazing), one of the Google hits led me back to the story on this site, rather than Nifty. Glad to be here. militarypress
