Whats the story and where can we find it?

Your welcome. I know the poll is a little weird and could have gone a lot further but well I had to limit it somehow so used the common genre list found on wikipedia and then paired it down a little so the poll would not be too long. Now I could after this poll is done take the top contenders and create a new poll with sub genres just to see what everyone thinks.
This poll seems like just a fun idea however it can be a tool for authors. there are a couple hundred (?) members on this forum. If only a small percentage prefer action adventure then I know my preferred writing genres is targeting a smaller audience and just maybe i might want to try my hand at something else.

I like coming of age stories but I prefer them to not have too much sex in them. I skim through those parts. It's better for me to have some humor and a happy ending, no matter the genre.
I have a confession to make. Sometimes I watch movies on the Hallmark channel. Not often, but sometimes.

For me, the action adventure is the best, but then again, as always, i look at things differently.  I prefer a story that gets me hooked, makes me feel what the chracter is feeling, and facing what they face.  In my opinion, almost all stories can be called action adventure, since there is almost always some action in the story.

I chose Fantasy because it is my very favorite but I also like Urban Fantasy as a close second (I see them as slightly related). Then comes action/ adventure and science fiction. But I have also found Romance and Coming of Age stories I like. Then last but not necessarily least is Arthur's Drummer Boy which is Historical Fiction that I wouldn't usually read.
So my genre that I would chose if it was available is a well-written story; the genre doesn't matter.

i have a problem with this poll.  the only one of those i don't like is fan fic.  I find that writers of "fan fic" stories tend to take the characters into place the original authors didn't intend.  IF it is done with different characters, say in the setting of the story they emulate, that's fine.  But I would feel upset if someone hijacked my characters, even in sincerest appreciation, and just did with them as they pleased.  A lot of my chars have deep reasons why they do and act as they do.  Not all of those reasons are completely known in the stories yet (got to have something to reveal later *wink*).

Ah, it's a difficult poll to vote in, to choose one genre from the list. I was heading towards coming out/coming of age, because I like to read realistic stories with insights into characters and their thinking, along with the trials and tribulations they must face.
However, I like any realistic fiction, which encompasses more than just that one genre mentioned above and can include historical fiction and adventure - adventure is good - I like drama. My tastes are broad. Fantasy is up there on my list, but not werewolves, vampires and elfs - nobody can beat Tolkien, and the werewolves and vampires just leave me - uh, cold - apologies to all you werewolves and vampires out there. Fan fiction, nope, don't like it.
Science Fiction, it has to be really good, I've read tons in the past, so I tend not to.
I suppose realistic fiction is my top choice so I'll give my vote to coming of age/coming out, because I have to choose from the list.
One last thing - I do love stories that are written differently, example - I just read a short book where each chapter was the entry in a young boy's diary, it was brilliant (I thought).
PS. Thanks for the poll ?

A case of life imitating art maybe?
I recently went back and looked at some of the notes on Ashwoods actions when he first became President and I got to say its pretty f'ing scary how similar they are to our current RL President.
This story is one of my favorites of Roland's. The format and style are gripping. Love the journal entries as well. A window into to characters mind.

I know of a couple authors that are blowing the cobwebs out from between their ears and sharpening their Pencils. (does anyone even use pencils anymore)

I believe everyone has their personal struggle, but it must be particularly difficult when trapped inside a cult and not knowing what exists in the world outside. That the only way out might be to end your life is terrible, even worse is that this solution presents itself to many who can see no alternative. It is so sad, it makes me cry. I recall a boy I loved who never made it. Suicide is NOT an answer, however, dark things may seem - there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but it is a light to guide you towards a new life, not a light to walk into and end your life.

    Cynus,
I have been extremely busy lately and haven't been paying attention to the forums. I now see my folly. This really hit home as I am also a gay ex-Mormon.
I too lived with struggle of how do I prove I am worthy. Or question if I am truly worthy of love. The brainwashing we underwent goes so deep we will live with it for the rest of our lives, it haunts us but we must always fight it and win.
As a teenager, the pressure placed on me to show how devout I was, was so great, knowing in my heart I was gay, I fully intended to commit suicide. I had it all planned out, but a couple weeks before I meet someone, not a love interest or anything like that leave those fantasies to the fiction. I was a sophomore in High School and my family decided to adopt a little boy from a friend of one of my older brothers. This young woman was in a bad place in her life, drugs, alcohol, she was 19 years old and had 3 kids by 3 different fathers, (Keep in mind this is 1989) That little boy stole my heart and when the day came for me to do it I got up to go to school. I was planning the deed for after school. Before I go further you need to understand that nothing else was wrong in my life. I was a good student, I was an athlete, I had lots of friends and an active social life, But I was gay and I was a Mormon. So any way the day arrived and I got up for school very resolute. I got ready said my cheerful good mornings. Grabbed my stuff and started heading out the door when this little boy grabs my hand and stops me and looks me in the eyes and says, "I need you to play with after school because I love you." I reached down and hugged him and promised him I would play with him after school." I got to the bus stop turned around and went home and told my mom I was staying home from school to get to know my little brother more. My mom didn't argue because I never missed school. As a matter of fact she decided to go out with her sister for a bit so I could have time with him.
I have never told him this story but he saved my life.
That day was the day I slowly started to extract myself from the church. It took a long time and was a horrible process but today I know I am I know what I am worth. No one can tell me different.

It Gets Better I promise. If your Reading this and the thought even crosses you mind stop and talk to someone outside the church please. You are worthy and you can be loved.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this Eric. I agree with Eric I think we all kind of took a winter break and started working on other projects. Once we realized the RU was slowing down we all jumped right back in. Of course that creates its own problem of trying to get all the chapters through editing and also making sure we the authors are not stepping all over each other.  Rest assured I have it on good authority you will see RU chapters flying out here soon.

Love this story very well written and amazing character development. Really get a feel for Arthur and his group. It also does a great job on showing how the war in the US is having a global effect.
I was one of many people that helped Ricky research the correct forms of address. What we discovered is there are many rules, etiquette and precedents for Royal address, many are not even written but just assumed. The situation of Arthur is fairly different in that he is King by birth but has not been crowned. According to the many rules, etiquette and  precedents we were able to uncover, the correct from of address for Arthur would be "Your Majesty" or "Your Royal Highness" Or "Your Highness" Most people would defer to "Your Majesty" However members of the peerage and foreign dignitaries and heads of state may use the lesser addresses as political point. Some people may be confuse as to which for to use as their hasn't been a Regent Ruler used in the United Kingdom since 1820 when Prince Regent George IV ruled when his father went insane.
Great Story Ricky keep it coming.
