larkin
This is one of many immigration disputes between Russia and the US not the least of which is Edward Snowden. The US is seeking extradition from Russia where no treaty exists. There is another case where a woman adopted a 7 year old boy from an orphanage in Russia and then regretting the decision, put the unaccompanied boy on a plane back to Russia.Homosexuality is legal in Russia but issues like gay rights draw fire from the usual conservative forces just like they did here. Perhaps not as liberal, the dark days of the USSR are essentially gone. This issue has two sides. The kid in question was privileged enough to get a student visa for a set period of time and like any kid his age, he viewed it as a way to get on his own. Gay or straight, there is nothing unusual about this but it does break the rules of the agreement. His strategy is good because if he didn't make a fuss and appeal for asylum, then he becomes just another illegal immigrant subject to deportation. This is my favorite video, only 4 minutes, perhaps a Russian gay boy, perhaps not but certainly edgy.. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w3c67AYl0rM?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Edited December 6, 2015 by larkin
