Guest
I just watched the world cup so football is over….. OHHH You mean the American version! Now a serious question since I really don't do organized sports… Why do they call it football when really they have their hands on it more then their feet? And I'd love to see an American football team take on a rugby team I'd be laughin my arse off at that slaughter (rugby creaming them of course). LOL Hey I gotta have fun it's my job Go redwings! dribble that ball down the arena! and shoot a home run.
ken barber
At a time when most sports were played on horseback, the term "football" was originally used to describe games that were played on foot (not a game in which you kick a ball with your foot). This includes soccer, rugby and American football. "Football" as the rest of the world knows it (or "soccer" in the U.S.) was originally known as Association Football, which became "soccer" for short before being widely known as just "football." American football is more an evolution of rugby football or Aussie rules football, which emerged around the same time as Association football. The term "soccer" stuck in the U.S. while in Europe and other parts just "football" became more popular than "soccer." So when people say it's weird that the U.S. calls it "soccer," they only do so because the term was invented in Europe, and was the original term for the sport before it became just "football". In short, American football is known as such because of it's similarity to rugby football.Soccer was originally known as Association Football-then Soccer-then FootballRugby was originally know as Rugby Football -then just RugbyAmerican Football was originally know as American Football-then Football. The term Soccer only started its decline in favor of Football in the late 1970's and 1980's so in fact we Americans have been using the name Football for American Football longer than everyone else has been using the term football for Soccer. ken barber
And as for an American Football Team taking on a Rugby Team it would be a disaster for both teams as they would be playing by completely seperate rules. you cant pass in Rugby so the first time the Americans got the their hands on the ball and made a 50 yard pass the over muscled steroid heads in Rugby would be standing their with their mouths open as the lighter and faster american players left them in the dust. I really honestly never knew that. That was amazing. They always say you learn something new every day and it is true. Steve T.
I'm definitely ready for football. This baseball season has been so disappointing (the Reds have nearly the worst record in baseball). My Bengals open on the west coast this week (Oakland). The only thing I don't like about that is having to wait for the 4:15 game. A lot of "experts" are picking the Bengals to win the AFC North again. Let's hope! Steve T.
This is code for your team sucks and the Patriots will kick their ass., Well, no regular season games between the two teams, so if they meet, it won't be until the playoffs! Given the Bengals post-season record in the last dozen years or so, I wouldn't give them much of a shot. But, we shall see. They need to win some regular season games first.
